3-Step Nasal Rinse Instructions

A nasal rinse requires a neti pot. It only takes a few minutes and can even be done by children. Mix approximately ΒΌ teaspoon of fine, non-iodized table salt into about 1 cup (8oz) of warm water, until it is fully dissolved. To prevent contamination, it is recommended that you use sterile water, such as distilled water or water that has been boiled and cooled to make your irrigation solution. Once you have the saline solution mixed, pour it into the Nasal Rinse Cup. Standing in the shower, or over the bathroom sink, place the spout of the neti pot in one nostril and tip your head to the opposite side. The saline water enters one nostril from the spout of the pot, and exits the other nostril, having traveled through and cleansed the nasal passages by the gentle force of gravity. Do the other side by placing the spout of the neti pot in your other nostril and tipping your head the other way.

Uses:

Saltwater washes (saline lavage or irrigation) help keep the nasal passages open by washing out thick or dried mucus. They can also help improve the function of cilia that help clear the sinuses. This can help prevent the spread of infection to the other sinuses and reduce post-nasal drip.
